[MOD] SHINee Duets 2012

For the second year in a row, shinee_replay is hosting SHINee Duets!

SHINee Duets is a collaborative challenge, where people who sign up are paired together with a fellow writer to collaborate on one 3000 word minimum fic, which the two of you must complete within a month's time. Partners will be able to choose from a variety of prompts that the mods will provide, but ultimately are not required to follow any of those if they find an alternate source of inspiration.

The challenge here is to learn to cooperate with another writer. We hope that someone relying on your writing will also push you to do your best while keeping you motivated. Participants are allowed to request a re-assignment if you absolutely cannot work with your partner, but the mods cannot guarantee that you will receive one. You may also be asked to work in a group of three if we have an odd number of sign-ups.

Please keep in mind that your partnerships will depend on both your preferences and your partner’s preferences. We wouldn’t like to discourage you from writing less common pairings or stories, but keep in mind when signing up that if we can’t find someone to match your first preference, we will choose someone who we believe will fit you based on your other preferences. If you have preferences that don’t match anyone, we’ll have a very difficult time finding a partner for you. :(

We've asked that you provide timezones/countries so that we can try our best to assign someone within a relatively close distance and time.

This year, we're trying something new. If you and a friend would like to sign up together, you can request to be partnered together. For this to work, you must both request each other. Unless there is a conflict matching authors, it is highly likely you will both be assigned to each other.

Once assigned to a partner, you are free to communicate with them in any way you prefer. You must provide your email address to us (comments are screened, and the mods will not send you any emails outside of the challenge). When the assignments are sent out, we will be providing your email address to your partner. If you don't feel comfortable sharing your email address in that way, you must be able to receive private messages on LJ, or you must provide an alternate method for your partner to contact you.

While we of course want to encourage as many people to sign-up for the challenge as would like to, we also want to caution you to carefully consider your availability and schedule before doing so. Because of the collaborative nature of the challenge, you and your partner will have to be able to keep an open line of communication and feedback with each other. So one partner disappearing on the other is going to throw a kink in the works. In accordance with our new strikes policy regarding challenges, dropping without the consent of your partner warrants strikes against your record.

Once you’ve received your partner assignment, please don’t disclose who it is to others! Like the Secret Santa exchange, a little bit of mystery and suspense keeps the challenge exciting for everyone involved. The partnerships will be revealed at the time of posting.

Dates: Sign-ups — January 15th - 22nd
Receive partner assignments — January 29th
First Draft Deadline — February 19th (minimum 1000 words)
Final Draft Deadline — March 4th (minimum 3000 words)
